Amanda Dew Manning, an expert on local southern cuisine, has partnered with several local restaurants so you can tour Charleston’s finest kitchens. Meet the chefs that make Lowcountry fare distinguishable from the rest of the country, and find out what it takes to produce such elegantly delicious food. Reservations are required.

A Taste of Culinary History

Explore some of Charleston’s oldest kitchens and discover how cooking, dining, and entertaining traditions have evolved into a distinguished southern hospitality. The culinary customs you will learn about were come from the 18th and 19th centuries, but are still very present in today’s kitchens. Two tours, the Uptown and Downtown Tours, offer access to two historic homes and end with a brief tasting at a historic downtown building. The Uptown Tour takes you to the Heyward-Washington House and the Nathaniel Russell Museum House. The Downtown Tour takes you to the Joseph Manigault House and the Aiken-Rhett House.

Savor the Flavors Tour

This walking tour covers two miles of Charleston’s tastiest neighborhoods. Sample some native southern cuisine and learn some simple secrets so you can take a piece of the southern tradition home with you. Each tour makes three stops, selected from the following; Artisan Bakeries, Food Markets, Chocolatiers, and Specialty Shops.

Tour time- 9:30 and 11:30 Saturdays
Cost- $35

The Chocolate Seductions Tour

Holidays are for sweets and sweethearts, this tour covers both. This exclusive tour takes you behind the scenes of some of Charleston’s finest restaurants and allows you to experience the art of creating desserts from beginning to end. Learn from the city’s best pastry chefs, bakers, and chocolatiers how to satisfy your sweet tooth, and sweetheart. Some participating restaurants include: Charleston Grill, Cypress, Fish, McCrady's, and Oak.

Holiday Tour- December 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th
Valentines Tour- February 2nd, 9th, 16th
Tour time- 10:00am 12:30pm
Cost- $60 per person
