Civil War Walking Tour
If you have been doing your research on Charleston, then you should be aware that the city played an integral role in the Civil War. In the winter of 1860, South Carolina seceded from the Union and by April of 1861 the war was initiated in the Charleston Harbor with southern forces firing on a U.S. occupying force at Fort Sumter. From that point the war was long and devastating for the city of Charleston. Learn the history frequently left out in text books and walk on the soil that the Confederate soldiers so badly wanted to defend. Some historical information to be covered during the tour includes the Ordinance of Secession, the South Carolina Militia, and Blockade Running. In addition to the narration you will see the infamous Battery where you can view Fort Sumter and the Charleston Harbor. This tour lasts two hours.
