Charleston’s Pirates and Buccaneers Tour

Pirates are often associated with the Caribbean and other tropical places. The reality is; where there is a prosperous port city there are pirates. When this country was founded Charleston was one of the largest port cities, receiving goods from England and Europe. Not long after the settlers had settled, slaves began to be imported from Africa, making the seaport an even more attractive target to the pirates. This tour penetrates the dark allies and taverns that the pirates once convened in, sometimes in celebration of their last heist and other times to plot with other buccaneers on what to hit next. You will also explore the jails where they were imprisoned when caught, and the places they were hung after conviction. We all know that Charleston has endured wars, plagues, depressions, a slave insurrection, and a countless number of devastating storms. Yet, at one time pirates and buccaneers such as Blackbeard, Stede Bonnet, Captain Kidd, Anne Bonny, and The Red Sea Men posed the biggest thereat to the prosperity and survival of the seaport and city.
