The Ghosts & Legends Tour is Charleston's original year-round ghost expedition. The tour is based on Charleston Ghosts by M.R. Martin and Doctor to the Dead by John Bennett. In-house researchers are continuously uncovering lost or forgotten tales. Some stories that are included in this tour are; the Legend of the "Gray Man", the story of Sue Howard's ghost, as well as Isaac's Hayne's ghost. Isaac Haynes was sentenced to death for treason after politely refusing to fight in the British Army during the Revolutionary War. On the corner of Meeting and Atlantic Streets his ghost still haunts the place where his two children watched him march to his death. He made a promise to them that he would return, and legend says that you can still hear him coming up the stairs to fulfill that promise. Also covered in the tour is the folklore of the Gullah "Boo Hags", vampire-like creatures that survive by "ridin' their victims" and stealing their breath. This tour lasts 1.5 hours and covers one mile.
