Charleston Insider's Guide > Hotels & Lodging
Once you've decided to vacation in Charleston, you next have to find a great place to stay. You have more options than you think you do. Many factors come into play, such as your view, location, budget, level of service and overall preference. Your budget will undoubtedly be the deciding factor in choosing your final accommodations. You might, however, not realize how far your money can get you.
For a great overall vacation, you will want to stay either in the historic downtown area, or on the waterfront. Downtown is obviously where most of the places of interest are, including the shopping district, and most of Charleston's best restaurants. It is also possible to get a hotel that is both downtown and on the water. Not surprisingly, these hotels will be slightly more expensive.
Let's take a look at what Charleston has to offer:
Bed & Breakfasts - For a fantastic romantic getaway a good bed and breakfast can't be beat. The attention to detail of these places is rather high, and you can expect a much more personal touch from these establishments based upon their relatively small size.
Hotels & Inns - The hotels in Charleston vary from small and inexpensive to enormous and extravagant. There are luxury hotels and historic inns to choose from, along with full service and budget hotels. These are usually good choices for families, while allowing for fine tuning due to the large number of different kinds of hotels.
Resorts - Resorts are great for families and for those who want to do a minimum of planning or driving once in Charleston. Some resorts have their own golf courses and most have a lot of child friendly activities and dining options.
Camping & RV Parks - For the nature lover, or those of you just stopping through during your great southeast adventure, camping is a great way to save a lot of money and stay in some beautiful locations.
